This fabulous new album by Vaughan Hoy is a sumptuous richly woven collection of songs grounded in the contemporary tradition of thickly polyphonic acoustic and electric instruments travelling along an inspired cosmic trail. 12 original songs, 2 reinterpreted cover songs, 14 tracks all together blended to create 1 hour and 16 minutes of hypnotic pleasure. The albums 12 original songs weave a path through a forest of inspired acoustic and electric color creating a landscape of blended influences ranging from the late 60’s to today’s contemporary Indie song writing genre. Where To Now is the premier release of Vaughan Hoy as a singer songwriter.
Downloads from this project are being donated to Doctors Without Borders / Medicines Sans Frontieres who are aiding the refugee crisis.
Twelve original songs, two classic cover songs reinterpreted, four great artists, and one hour and sixteen minutes of solid sonic ooze. Where To Now creates a lush singer - songwriter sound scape of thickly textured songs in the Indie tradition.
This album was recorded, mixed and produced at Sound Extractor Studios, Edmonton, Alberta, February to May 2016. Base tracks were recorded at FOSS Music, Edmonton, Alberta, September 2015 to February 2016. All live sessions, mixing and production was done at Sound Extractor Studios.
I have been blessed to work with some wonderful artists on this album. Foremost I would like to thank my producer and engineer Jeff Kynoch for his patience, ease and great fun to work with, musicianship in his own right, time, and conversation he gave me in working out what I thought I wanted to achieve, and his artistic gifts and knowledgable advice in the production and engineering of this album that made it so much more of everything.
It has been a great privelage to work with professional artists Lara Tang and Stew Kirkwood. I thank Lara for her beautiful soaring vocal contributions which brought out an altogether other element of spirit and soul in the songs she has left her artistic mark on. And I thank Stew for bringing such richness to songs that really became special with his virtuosic percussion and solid interpretation on bass.
Artistic thanks and appreciation to Kendel Vreeling of KendelMakes for the beautiful original art work for the album, and album design, and Kendel and Kavan Schell for their videography, which was shot at Sound Extractor Studios on March 10, 2016.
I would like to thank my family for their continual support, patience and encouragement, and friends and colleagues who have provided ongoing support and positive vibes. It all makes life go round.
